The Costs and Benefits of Growth

There has been much discussion on the Costs and benefits of growth. At a recent Planning Commission meeting, two major sources of information were made available for review. They were from the Farmland Trust (http://www.farmlandinfo.org/documents/27757/FS_COCS_11-02.pdf#search='COCS%20study%20farmland%20trust') and from the National Association of Home Builders (http://www.nahb.org/fileUpload_details.aspx?contentID=30601).

I invite you to review these sources and make comments

I sure don't want to end up like Albany!! Did anyone read the Sunday paper. Sure makes me feel good about living here in Tangent! I hope it stays rural. I know we need some growth but not at the rate like Albany!!!

I moved here to get away from rapid growth. Lebanon, and Albany are growing too fast for me. I guess I wonder about the people who move here and then want Tangent to grow so much. We have less traffic and less crime. I count my lucky stars, (while I still can) that I live here. Tangent's growing, just look around. I've heard stories of lots of housing here and it would change this community forever.

Yes, growth has it's good points and bad points. Unplanned growth is not good.
The growth that is going to take place here in this town won't be too much to soon as you are all afraid of. It's going to take time. There is a lot of planning to do and none of it is going to "destroy" this town. The new neighborhoods we have seen come to Tangent in the past year has brought some wonderful people and volunteers to various positions in town. Take some time to get to know these people. They are great folks!

I agree, planning is very important, especially after this flodding! No sense to rushing though. Slow is good. No need to add a bunch more headaches until we fix some of the ones we have.

I tried to read the one from the National Association of Home Builders. It's too confusing and too much math. We don't have the tax income either or income from people working in Tangent. The Farmland Trust document was easier to understand. I think we need to be careful about just doing residential development. More important to me is that the city is prepared for development. It isn't. We need to consider a tax base.

I agree, we should consider a tax base. What do you all think about that idea??? I am curious as to how that would fly in the November election. What are your thougts Tangent???

A tax base is fine by me if I know where all the money is going and can be sure it will go where it's supposed to
